More than one million people have registered to vote online, according to official government figures.
Since June 10th, Britons have had the option to sign up to the online voter registration system and the coalition said satisfaction with the service is currently over 90 per cent.
The fact so many people are turning to the online option is further evidence of the increasing role the internet is playing in the UK's everyday life.
Minister for the constitution Sam Gyimah stated: "We designed this new online service with the user in mind, and it’s great that such a large number of people across the UK are using the service."
He added that more than a quarter of those people who have registered have been under the age of 35, which is pleasing as there are concerns about the number of Britons in this age group who will not vote.
