Businesses in Wells have expressed their concerns about the lack of reliable broadband in the city.
Sajid Javid, secretary of state for culture, media and sport, visited the area last week to discuss the issue with local firms and was told many companies have lost business as a result of the lack of connectivity, the Wells Journal reports.
Tom Dalley, owner of the Stable Business Park in the nearby village of Rooksbridge, told the minister: "I have had businesses leave the park to go elsewhere all because of our internet connection speed."
Mr Javid pointed to the government's super-fast rollout as a solution to these problems and said any areas that miss out on the project will receive an alternative solution such as 4G.
However, this was dismissed by some local businesses who claimed firms in the area would be "lucky to get 2G" rather than 4G.
