Broadband users across the world were celebrating Twitter's eighth birthday yesterday (Thursday March 20th).
The social networking site has gathered more than 240 million users since launching in 2006 and has become an integral part of day-to-day life for many people across the globe.
To give people the chance to celebrate its birthday, Twitter released a feature that allowed individuals to see the first tweet they posted on the network.
Popstar Katy Perry remains the most followed person on the site with more than 51.6 million people subscribed to her updates - this is roughly equivalent to the population of England.
Justin Bieber comes in just behind with 50 million followers, while the most popular Briton on the network is One Direction star Harry Styles.
Prime minister David Cameron is also on the site, but with only 630,000 subscribers he is someway behind in the most-followed stakes.
