Online retail 'creating super shoppers' header image

The growth of online retail is creating a new group of "super shoppers".

This is according to a study by eBay and Deloitte, which found just 18 per cent of consumers account for 70 per cent of total sales in the UK. 

Mobile devices are playing a huge part in this, with most of this group making an increasing number of purchases over the internet through a tablet or smartphone.

The study said these super shoppers tend to be aged between 25 and 44 and work in intermediate or higher managerial and professional positions.

Ian Geddes, partner at Deloitte, stated: "Super shoppers account for a larger share of spending, use a wider range of resources to research purchases and they do this using a greater variety of channels."

The results of eBay and Deloitte's survey follows research by British Retail Consortium that revealed online sales growth hit a five-year high in January.
