Shropshire councillor makes broadband vow header image

A local councillor has pledged to provide broadband coverage to the whole of Shropshire by 2016.

Steve Charmley told the Shropshire Star the majority of people in the county will receive access to a super-fast connection, while the remainder will at least be able to go online with a basic service.

These comments follow concern from residents in rural parts of the country that they will be overlooked in the roll out of high-speed internet, which has led to the formation of the South-West Shropshire and Marches Broadband Campaign Group.

However, Mr Charmley warned improved services will not become available overnight and called for patience from local communities.

"Installing new broadband infrastructure is a hugely challenging job and will take time," he stated.

Shropshire residents could receive a fast and reliable internet connection that is available now by switching to Avonline's satellite broadband, as this service is ideally suited to rural areas.
